How many days do you need in the Shenandoah Valley?
Plan 2 days for a focused weekend (one Valley town + one Skyline Drive section), 3–4 days for a deeper trip covering two towns and two outdoor days, and a full week if you want to drive the length of the Valley from Winchester to Lexington with stops.

Pick one town (Staunton, Harrisonburg, or Lexington) and one short Skyline Drive segment. Don't try to do both ends — drive time will eat the day.

One town for food/lodging, one full outdoor day on Skyline Drive or a national-forest trail. This is what most Valley weekends look like.
