How long is Skyline Drive?
Skyline Drive is 105 miles long, running the full length of Shenandoah National Park from Front Royal in the north to Rockfish Gap near Waynesboro in the south. End-to-end takes about 3 hours nonstop at the 35 mph speed limit — most visitors plan a full day to include overlooks, short hikes, and a meal.
The four districts
Skyline Drive is split into four maintenance districts marked by mile posts: North (0–31), Central (31–66), South (66–105), with Big Meadows and Skyland lodges near the middle. Every mile is marked, and overlooks are signed by milepost.
Drive time with stops
Plan ~3 hours nonstop, ~5–6 hours with a handful of overlook pulloffs, or a full day if you want to walk a few short trails (Stony Man, Dark Hollow Falls, Bearfence). Foliage season weekends are slower — leave Front Royal by 8am to beat the crowd.
Entrances
Four entrance stations: Front Royal (Mile 0), Thornton Gap (Mile 31), Swift Run Gap (Mile 65), and Rockfish Gap (Mile 105). A 7-day pass works at all of them.
