Queen City Mischief & Magic Returns to Downtown Staunton

Save your wand arm: Queen City Mischief & Magic is coming back to downtown Staunton for another weekend of full-on wizarding chaos, and after last year's soggy-but-triumphant 10th anniversary, the organizers have already put out the call — "more mischief, magic, mystery and mayhem" is on the way.

If you've never made it to QCMM, picture this: historic downtown Staunton — Beverley Street, the Wharf, Central Avenue, New Street — transformed into a walkable, no-ticket-required wizarding village for two full days. Costumes are everywhere. Owls fly low. A steam train pulls into the Buckingham Branch station. A Polyjuice Parade rolls down Beverley. Kids get sorted at the Wharf. Grown wizards slip off to Knockturn Alley for something a little more mature. Somewhere on Johnson Street, a Quidditch match is absolutely happening.

A homegrown festival — not a corporate one

This is the part that makes QCMM feel like a Valley original. The event is run by an all-volunteer army, is completely free, and — as the organizers happily point out — is not affiliated with Warner Bros. or any other corporate entity. • Quackkitch World Cup down S. Central Avenue (yes, really)
• Dementor Dance Party as the sun sets on Huffepuff Block

• Do Good Alley — a full block of Valley non-profits doing crafts, face painting, and family activities
• Live stages with illusionists, snake shows, a cappella groups, and the Flutes of the Shenandoah

The organizers are refreshingly honest about how it all comes together: things get announced when they get announced, the Facebook page is the source of truth, and there will always be "way more things to do than you have time to do it."
