Seven Bends State Park is a day-use park sprawling across 1,052 acres in the distinctive Seven Bends area of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. This park provides public access to the river with two hand-carry boat launches, making it ideal for those who enjoy paddling. You will find picnic areas, including a single family-sized picnic shelter, and vault restrooms for your convenience. With 9 miles of hiking/biking trails, you can explore the diverse landscape, with over two miles of trails hugging the river's unique 'seven bends' and others ascending the western slope of Powell Mountain. The Talus trail even connects to the Massanutten Trail in the George Washington-Jefferson National Forest. Whether you're interested in water-based activities or land adventures, Seven Bends State Park offers a variety of opportunities to connect with nature. The 'seven bends' section of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River is known for its geology and beautiful scenery, perfect for floating. Anglers can enjoy wade fishing for smallmouth bass, sunfish, fallfish, largemouth bass, and muskellunge, though a Virginia freshwater fishing license is required. The park also provides contactless kayak rentals at the Hollingsworth Access, reserving a kayak one week in advance. While there are no designated swimming areas due to swift currents and unseen obstructions, the park encourages visitors to enjoy the river safely. The park's goal is to protect and interpret the scenic viewshed and the area's geological, natural, and historical resources, continuing the legacy of the former Camp Lupton in providing a place for outdoor recreation. No cabins or camping are available on site.
Two access sites are available. The Hollingsworth Access is at 2111 S. Hollingsworth Rd, Woodstock, VA 22664. The Lupton Access is at 1191 Lupton Rd, Woodstock, VA 22664. S. Hollingsworth Rd. and Lupton Rd. are local roads, not lined, and have single-lane low water bridge crossings, so consider this when bringing large vehicles or trailers.
